Fog Intermittency and Critical Behavior

The intermittency of fog occurrence (the switching between and no-fog) is a key stochastic feature that plays role in its duration the amount moisture available. Here, studied by using visibility time series collected during month July 2022 on Sable Island, Canada. In addition to visibility, air relative humidity turbulent kinetic energy, putative variables akin formation breakup conditions fog, respectively, are also analyzed same framework establish links underlying atmospheric variables. Intermittency quantified with their binary telegraph approximations isolate clustering behavior from amplitude variations. It shown energy bound many features including spectral exponent, growth block entropy slope. Although not diagnostic, displays consistent Pomeau–Manneville Type-III quiescent phase PDF scaling (−3/2), power spectrum (−1/2), signal (−2). exhibits properties self-organized criticality relation distribution.
